about
It was very late at night when the Count Basie band was playing one of its trademark head arrangements early in 1937. Unexpectedly, the radio announcer leaned over to Basie and asked, “What’s the name of that tune you just played?” Caught off guard, Basie quickly glanced up at the clock and mumbled, “Umm, One O’Clock Jump.” With a few alterations from Harry James, it later became 'Two O’Clock Jump'. Opening the concert, B# gets some crisp trumpet and trombone section work and fabulous powerhouse drumming from one of the concert’s many heroes, Dave Beck.
