about
Applause for trumpeter Mat Jodrell, who eschews the well-worn Ray Nance solo on Take The ‘A’ Train in favour of his own sparkling ideas. A Billy Strayhorn tune adopted by the Duke as his theme, this locomotive roars up to Harlem with a dramatic and assertive Wycliffe statement "I'm here, guys, and I've got something to say."

A crisp take on old, scratchy Basie classics. Can't say I'm in love with the vocals, but instrumental tracks are killer.
Lots of good stuff to DJ from here. Jose Tello

I'm digging the covers. Some of these charts are harder to pull off with a small group (i.e. The Jeep is Jumpin'.) Overall it's a fun album with popular songs. The version of Castle Rock especially stands out. Jose Tello
