about
Although Stompin' At The Savoy is primarily associated with Benny Goodman's groundbreaking 1938 orchestra, lots of bands including Ellington and Basie had a go at it too. B# use it as a ‘get to know you’ feature, with Dave Gardner impressing on clarinet in a style very familiar to fans of the astonishing, Buddy DeFranco. Mat Jodrell, back home in Australia after considerable success in the USA, soars on trumpet and there are welcome statements from baritone saxophonist Greg Clarkson and tenor man Ian Whitehurst.

A crisp take on old, scratchy Basie classics. Can't say I'm in love with the vocals, but instrumental tracks are killer.
Lots of good stuff to DJ from here. Jose Tello

I'm digging the covers. Some of these charts are harder to pull off with a small group (i.e. The Jeep is Jumpin'.) Overall it's a fun album with popular songs. The version of Castle Rock especially stands out. Jose Tello
