Improving freely on a quite basic melody, Julie is the undisputed star of 'L.O.V.E.', her flights of fancy taking the tune up from fairly mundane to sheer delight. Natalie Cole had a hit with this song and Gianni Marinucci soars on a very satisfying trumpet solo. Bert Kaempfert composed the melody for Nat King Cole late in Nat’s life; the lyrics were added by small band jazz hero Milt Gabler (Billy Crystal’s uncle), who nobly ran Commodore Records in the ‘40s.
