His detractors in print (my aunt Mary Peart being one of them) had little good to say in the ‘40s about Harry James and his circus trumpet style, but I think he was better than that. An Armstrong man through and through, Harry was capable of excellent, driving solos, and here Greg Spence captures the very best of the James sound in his exuberant outing. Julie O’Hara is marvelous once again and the sax section hits another home run (Harry James was a fanatic baseball fan and had the best band-team of the swing era). Woody Allen loves this song, too, and used it a lot in Hannah and Her Sisters.
