about
Ever controversial, Stan Kenton made Intermission Riff a hit in the late 1940s and this is the first time B# have recorded a Kenton number. Alto saxophonist Tim Wilson delivers a fluent and flowing solo that suggests the ageless Lee Konitz, then Wycliffe launches his 'bone into the stratosphere’, bumping into orbiting weather satellites before coming back to earth in a growly mood. The trumpet ensemble playing is first-rate here and it all ends with rich bass tones from Philip Rex. Kenton's music will never come off so well.

A crisp take on old, scratchy Basie classics. Can't say I'm in love with the vocals, but instrumental tracks are killer.
Lots of good stuff to DJ from here. Jose Tello

I'm digging the covers. Some of these charts are harder to pull off with a small group (i.e. The Jeep is Jumpin'.) Overall it's a fun album with popular songs. The version of Castle Rock especially stands out. Jose Tello
