Does anyone remember Joe Garland? He’s the actual composer of 'In The Mood' (which had been recorded – and quickly forgotten - by Chick Webb’s band much earlier than the famous Glenn Miller 1940 version). On that hit record, tenor players Tex Beneke and Al Klink converse musically - Beneke became more famous because he sang a lot, but Al was the superior player. Here the exchange is between Anton Delecca and Julien Wilson and both are just fine. Lots of Hurley-like swagger again from trumpeter Shane Gillard and it’s most welcome. This is another selection that for millions defines the era, and wasn’t it swell?
