The first big hit for the brand-new Artie Shaw big band in 1938, Begin The Beguine is a real musical oddity - a pop tune that is 108 bars long. Most are much shorter, but Cole Porter liked to break the rules. Once again clarinetist Peter Hannah is a standout for his fine reading of the lovely melody – the brilliant Jerry Gray chart (that man again!) is why we remember it with such fondness today.
